Discreet Gun Storage from Stack-On – SHOT Show 2016
Russ Chastain 02.19.16
One thing I looked for while walking the concrete at the 2016 SHOT Show was discreet gun storage. It seems that with every passing day, we have fewer folks that we can trust. So discreet secure storage can be a great way to spread out your firearms and other valuables–and keep them secure but available in multiple areas of your home.
At the Stack-On display, the discreet storage I found offered was a selection of in-wall steel cabinets.
These cabinets are key-lockable and are designed to mount into a wall between 16″-on-center studs. Three sizes are currently listed on the Stack-On website. All of them contain a disclaimer, saying that they are “Not recommended for storing CDs or other electronic storage devices.”
The smallest offering is the In-wall Steel Pistol Steel Cabinet, item IWC-11.
IWC-11 Specs:
- Exterior Dimensions: 15-3/8″ W (39cm), 3-7/8″ D (10cm), 10-3/4″ H (27.3cm)
- Shipping Weight: 9.29 lbs.
- Interior Capacity: All storage plus 1 removable shelf
- Number of Shelves: 1
- Locking Points: 1
- Master Carton Dimensions: 16-1/2″ W, 5-1/4″ D, 12-1/4″ H
- Color: Beige gloss finish
Next in line is the Mid-sized In-wall Steel Cabinet, item IWC-22.
IWC-22 Specs:
- Exterior Dimensions: 15-3/8″ W (39cm), 3-7/8″ D (10cm), 20-1/4″ H (51.4cm)
- Shipping Weight: 15.75 lbs.
- Interior Capacity: All storage plus 2 removable shelves
- Number of Shelves: 2
- Locking Points: 3
- Master Carton Dimensions: 16-1/2″ W, 5-1/4″ D, 23-1/2″ H
- Color: Beige gloss finish
Finally, there’s the Full-length In-wall Steel Cabinet, item IWC-55. This is what you’ll need for storing long guns.
IWC-55 Specs:
- Exterior Dimensions: 15-3/8″ W (39cm), 3-7/8″ D (10cm), 54-3/4″ H (139cm)
- Shipping Weight: 33.33 lbs.
- Interior Capacity: 2 guns / 3 shelves plus 1 removable tray
- Number of Shelves: 3
- Locking Points: 3
- Master Carton Dimensions: 16-1/2″ W, 4-3/4″ D, 55-3/4″ H
- Color: Beige gloss finish
These cabinets could be placed in a closet behind hanging clothing; behind furniture; covered by paintings, mirrors, or other wall hangings; or simply left as is since they resemble an in-wall electrical box.
UPDATE – I’ve learned that Stack-On also has a line of in-wall safes as well as these cabinets. You can find some listed on this page. Some have electronic pushbutton locks, others have biometric (fingerprint) locks. Nice!
And, here’s a video that might give you a better idea of what we’re looking at here.
