A Look at the CMP Special Grade M1 Garand at the 2016 SHOT Show

Some of the best deals in firearms are the M1 Garands available from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).
The CMP is authorized by Congress to receive surplus M1 Garands (and some other firearms) direct from the U.S. Army for sale to qualified U.S. citizens for the promotion of marksmanship activities. Every rifle sold by the CMP is first inspected, overhauled as needed, graded, and test fired.
Although these are authentic WWII and Korean War era rifles, some potential buyers are leery of purchasing from the CMP because they want a “new” rifle instead of a used surplus rifle.
For anyone who wants a “like new” M1 Garand, the CMP Special Grade M1 Garand should meet their needs. These are authentic USGI rifles that have been completely rebuilt with new barrels and stocks and are as close to new production on original forged receivers as you will find. They are available in both .30 -’06 and .308. The price is $1,030 for either caliber.
CMP description of Special Grade M1 Garand:
CMP Special (.30-06) M1 Garand. This is a completely refurbished rifle consisting of an original M1 Garand Springfield or HRA receiver, new production Criterion barrel, new production American Walnut stock and handguards, and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture.
