Retractable AR Grip May be NY SAFE Compliant

The Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act is a far-reaching New York law that outlaws various common types of rifles and magazines. Well, one NY state inventor says he’s dreamed up a solution to part of the problem.

One of the things that SAFE bans is a grip that protrudes downward, claiming that is a military characteristic. Inventor Derek Decker asserts that no military in the world uses his type of grip because he just invented it, and that fact in conjunction with the retractable nature of his grip should make it legal in that state.

Even if NY continues its oppressive path and deems the invention to be bad news, the inventor and his attorney said they believe there to be a market for the grip, because they claim a protruding grip can make a gun difficult to store.

The patent-pending prototype Decker demonstrated, dubbed the Decker Retractor, has three sections that telescope and can be collapsed so the bottom of the grip is flush with the bottom of the trigger guard. When opened, a separate grip piece is slipped over the telescoped pieces to lock them in the open position.

Whether it will catch on is anybody’s guess. I don’t think I want one; what do you think?

So sad that in the supposed land of the free that we must try to dream up new gadgets to legalize things that should never have been outlawed in the first place.
