Book Takes a Look Inside Mass Killer’s Mind
Russ Chastain 07.18.14
Mass murderers do much to damage us as a society. This includes the people they kill, injure, and terrorize; the police officers and emergency medical workers who must bear witness to the horror they leave behind; the citizens left to live with the emotional scars and lack of trust that results from knowing such monsters live among us; and often, hastily-passed laws to further restrict the freedoms of those who had nothing at all do to with the crime.
A new book, “A Voice out of Nowhere: Inside the mind of a mass murderer,” explores a mass murder in Canada, in which a young man named Bruce Blackman killed six of his relatives. Blackman was found not guilty by reason of insanity and later released, having been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Like so many others, this killer had exhibited warning signs before he finally committed his crimes. As usual, these signs were ignored.
The author, Janice Holly Booth, says, “It’s time to change our attitudes about mental illness and to fix a very broken mental health care system. That’s the only way we’ll have a hope at reducing the high-profile violence committed by people with severe, untreated mental illness and in the process save thousands of lives.”
Hmmmm.
This book is a number one Amazon best-seller, so she must have done something right. It’s available as an e-book or paperback.
