AllOutdoor Review – Riton 5 TACTIX 1-10×24mm LPVO

In recent years, the optics market has seen the rise of several new manufacturers aiming to provide quality optics at competitive price points compared to the big, established brands. One such company that has been making waves is Riton Optics. Founded in 2013, Riton seeks to offer performance-driven optics accessible to a wide range of budgets. One of Riton’s latest releases is the Riton 5 TACTIX 1-10×24 LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic). This optic boasts many features found in scopes double its price, including a first focal plane (FFP) illuminated reticle, and locking/zeroing turrets. With its 1-10x magnification range, this scope competes directly with other similarly featured 1-10x LPVOs.

As a longtime second focal plane (SFP) scope user, I was eager to test out this optic and see if it would convert me to an FFP believer. In this review, I thoroughly test the features and performance of the 5 TACTIX 1-10×24 using it extensively in the field on actual range days and outings. Does this scope live up to its specs and Riton’s goals? How do the glass clarity, turret adjustments, reticle utility, and overall usability hold up? After running this Riton hard through its paces, find out my definitive verdict inside this hands-on review. Let’s dive down the rabbit hole.

Riton was nice enough to send along their 30mm/1″ QD scope mount. It has the capability to toggle between 1″ or 30mm.

The MSRP of the Riton 5 TACTIX 1-10×24 stands at a solid $959.99. The street price for these guys is more around the $700 mark. With other LPVOs (specifically the 1-10s) retailing for double and even triple the street price for this optic it comes off really appealing.

“The long awaited Riton optics First Focal plane 1-10×24 is HERE! This precision LPVO is a top of the line optic that can literally do it all. From red dot capabilities with fast target acquisition on 1 power to long range precision work on 10 power. Plus, with Riton’s Dual Throw Lever System (Patent Pending), you can easily and quickly switch between magnification powers on the fly.”

Range Time: Riton 5 TACTIX 1-10×24

At first glance, the 5 TACTIX 1-10×24 exudes a feeling of dense, rugged quality with its aircraft-grade aluminum construction. However, with this tank-like build comes additional heft. Mounted on my AR using Riton’s 30mm QD scope mount, the 1 lb 10 oz scope added noticeable weight. Still, the adjustment knobs turned smoothly with positive, audible clicks.

As a longtime second focal plane user, adjusting to the first focal plane system in general took some time. The magnification lever placement has the potential to be obstructed from further rotation by backup irons or pic rails depending on the configuration. However, it can be repositioned to a slightly different spot on the scope to help avoid this.

Testing at the range, the glass proved impressively clear across the magnification range. The windage and elevation turrets tracked precisely with audible clicks between adjustments. Even under rapid fire, the scope quickly regained zero when backing off the adjustments.

For a full reticle rundown feel free to consult the manual for the 5 TACTIX.

I found the eye box comfortable with a nice field of view from 1-8x, but it becomes very restricted at 9x and 10x. The reticle all but disappears at 1x unless illuminated.

The illumination is adjustable with six brightness levels and off positions in between each level. Even at peak brightness, the reticle remained crisp without blooming. In bright daylight conditions, I found the reticle to still be visibly illuminated but vaguely.  The fast-focus eyepiece allowed quick adjustments for sharpness as needed.

The quick focus eyepiece is easy to use and I never found any issue finding the right focus.

Final Thoughts: Riton 5 TACTIX 1-10×24 LPVO

Overall, I found the 5 TACTIX a well-made, quality scope. The optical clarity and tactical adjustments work as intended. However, the limited eye box at high magnification and heavier weight make this better suited to bench rest or prone shooting rather than dynamic, run-and-gun setups. Still, Riton delivers quality and features at a competitive price point.
