POTD: When Simple Doesn’t Do It – Firearms International Bronco
Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Introduced in 1967, the Firearms International Bronco (called Skeletol Bronco initially) .22 rifle weighed just 3 lbs thanks to its simple cast frame and skeletonized stock. Priced under $10 initially, a 1968 law mandated serial numbers that raised the cost slightly. In 1970, Firearms International rebranded it as the Bronco, offering .22, .410, and .22/.410 combo models. The unique pivot barrel swung out for loading after cocking via the front lever. With an extractor for removing spent cases, the no-frills Bronco was ideal for youth shooting or a lightweight prepper gun. Production wrapped up in 1978 after over a decade providing an inexpensive, basic utility rifle. The Bronco’s sparse design focused on function over form, epitomizing the affordable utility rifles of its era.
