Zev’s New Core Combat Rifle Series – Suitable for Avid AR Hunters?

I’ve noticed a bit of a trend recently within the hunting world – AR platforms are becoming increasingly popular. While a lot of this probably has to do with the type of hunting I’ve been into recently (hogs and the like), I also think it has to do with the increasing performance of semi-automatic rifles which are much closer in terms of repeatable and reliable accuracy these days as compared to the past. One rifle that might fit this bill is the recently announced ZEV Technologies Core Combat Rifle which is intended to be a reliable, rugged, and accurate rifle that will be available in not just 5.56, but also .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor which puts gives it the capability of being used for larger game.

The New Core Combat Rifle Series from ZEV Technologies
The Combat Rifle Series features both forged and billet models, available in .223 Wylde, 6.5 Creedmore, and .308 Winchester. The 16” Forged Combat Rifle is available today. All models are coated with rugged Cerakote Elite over Type III Class 2 hard coat anodize.
Large frame rifles are built on the ZEV MML platform, while the .223 models are built on precision machined forged receivers. The launch will start with the forged .223 models and the large frame rifles will be available shortly after. All rifles are manufactured in house and held to ZEV’s highest standards of performance.
The new Core Combat Rifle series will come standard with a low profile fixed gas block, ZEV muzzle device, H3 carbine buffer, duty weight 2-stage trigger, ambidextrous Radian charging handle, and a wedge lock handguard. Each rifle is sold for a price of $1,599.00 and will come standard in a 1:8 twist that is optimized for heavier grain weight bullets.
