POTD: A Crude Solution – The German Jager Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a really crude solution to a small arms shortage in World War One. This is the German Jager pistol chambered for 32 ACP. It is a straight blowback operated pistol and sports some features akin to that of the FN 1900. The sights are shallow and the triggers are said to be pretty squishy. The safety is odd in that when in the “safe” position it sticks way out the back of the pistol. These were made in small numbers from 1914 until 1917 making them very scarce.

“Manufactured from 1914 to 1917. The Jager pistol combined traditional machined, forged components with stamped sheet metal and was designed with simplicity of production as one of the primary concerns. Submitted for testing by the German High Command, the pistol was ultimately rejected by the army despite at the time showing itself to be both accurate and reliable. Fixed blade and notch sights, standard markings on the right side of the frame, stacked “crown/N” proofs on the right side of the barrel and frame, matching visible serial numbers including the magazine, and checkered grips.”
