POTD: When Savage Made A “Revolver” – Savage Model 101

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a Savage Arms revolver! You may not have heard of one of these before and it is probably because these revolvers did not come out with much of a bang upon their introduction to the market. This is a Savage Model 101 revolver in 22lr. This mostly has to do with the fact that they are a single-shot pistol. Yes, you read right, this “revolver” is a single shot. The cylinder is actually pinned to the barrel and upon loading or unloading the barrel and cylinder swing out in tandem. Their production run was from 1960 to 1968 and was advertised as costing $20. Pretty spendy for a 1960s single-shot pistol that looks like a six-shooter. The 1940s through the early 1960s saw a huge emergence of western movies. Many kids grew up with six-shooters and horses in their heads. All those little cowboy wannabes most likely were disappointed.
