POTD: What is That Thing? – The Colt Trooper MKIII

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a Colt double action revolver with a swing-out cylinder but it is not a member of the snake gun family. This is a Colt Trooper MKIII chambered in 22 long rifle. The Colt Trooper was introduced in 1953 and was manufactured until 1969 before changing to an MKIII variant (yeah, they more or less skipped one). They were chambered in 22 long rifle, 38 Special, and 357 Magnum. The Colt Trooper MKIII specifically was made from 1969 until 1983 and was featured in one of my favorite movies The Thing (1983). The new MKIII featured a completely redesigned lockwork intended to decrease the amount of hand-fitted parts.

“Manufacturer: Colt
