POTD: The First Mass Produced Polymer Pistol – Heckler & Koch VP70

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a really cool one. This is the Heckler and Koch VP70 but not just any H&K! It is the Heckler and Koch VP70M. The cool thing about this pistol beyond the fact that it was really the first mass-produced polymer pistol is that the M variant (military) is capable of taking a shoulder stock. Much like in the tradition of older European handguns, this stock is capable of acting as a holster if the situation called for it. Better than just being a holster, the stock also converts the handgun to a select fire pistol capable of three-round bursts.
“The H&K VP70 holds the distinction of being the first polymer frame pistol on the market, predating the Glock 17 by twelve years. The truly unique feature of this pistol is it’s ability to fire three round bursts with the very rare attached shoulder stock. Manufactured in 1977. Standard fixed front and rear sights, standard markings and proofs on the slide and barrel with an “HH” date code. The polymer shoulder stock/holster features the correct selector switch with red filled “3/1″ firing positions.”
