POTD: The Erma ET-22 – A Navy Style 22 Luger Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have the Erma Werke Waffenfabrik ET-22 Navy Luger 22 Pistol. I have always been aware that Erma had made some 22 rimfire Luger pistols back in the 1960s but I guess I had no idea that they made the navy style Lugers as well. Erma Werke Waffenfabrik was a manufacturing company in Germany dating all the way back to the 1920s. During World War Two they manufactured all sorts of machine guns for the German military until they got bombed by the British. After the war, they were asked to perform maintenance on M1 Carbine rifles and would even manufacture their own 22 Caliber versions to help train soldiers. When the 1960s approached and the United States market began to import surplus firearms a bunch of brand new Erma 22 handguns made their appearance. First with standard luger style 22 pistols and then later with this navy style one. These came packaged in leatherette as you see in the photo and ones that survive today can be worth some money.
