POTD: Webley & Scott 1913 Mark I Semi-Automatic Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Before the early entrenched years of World War One, there was a drastic metamorphosis in warfare and arms technology. With most of the world jumping down the smokeless powder rabbit hole they also were experimenting with self-loading firearms. Webley & Scott of the Webley Revolver that the UK forces were issued decided they needed to get into the autoloading pistol game. This became the Webley Self Loader and our example today is from 1913. The Webley Self Loader was chambered for the original revolvers giant .455 Webley and was fed from a seven-round detachable box magazine. The pistol was made all the way into the early 1930s.
“Fitted with a Patridge front sight and windage adjustable rear. Dated 1913 on the left side of the slide, with the Webley “winged bullet” logo next to “WEBLEY & SCOTT Ltd/ PISTOL SELF-LOADING 455 MARK 1″, and ” R M/ 2/ 4 2″ on top. Crown over “BP” and “BU” proofs visible on top of the slide, chamber and frame. Frame is equipped with a grip safety, serrated ring hammer, serrated slide catch, lanyard ring, magazine release on the butt, and checkered hard rubber grips.
