POTD: Squeeze Out Some Lead! Gaulois No. 1 Palm Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an example of a weird pistol in that it is an 8mm Gaulois No 1 Palm Pistol. These pistols are strange by today’s standards, but back in the late 1800s and early 1900s they weren’t out of the question for a form of self-defense for the average-Joe. The way these pistols work is similar to a double-action revolver. In this case, the rear grip is squeezed like a trigger until it breaks and fires.
“Gaulois No.1 Palm pistol. Made early 1900s in France. Marked “MANUFACTURE FRANCIAS SAINT ETINNE/ARMES ET CYCLES” on the top of the frame. “GAULOIS” marked on the barrel rib. Pin front sight. Sliding dust cover. Reapplied matte blued finish on the metal components. Wood grip looks to be a replacement.”
