POTD: Winchester 1895 Rifle – 1896 Advertisement for the Model 1895
Sam.S 05.25.21
Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! I absolutely love old-time advertisements. I think it is especially cool if they have to do with firearms since they usually depict a grand image and patriotic stance. This clipping from 1896 shown by Cody Firearms Museum’s Facebook gives us the listed price of a Winchester 1895 Lever Action Rifle. The Winchester 1895 was supposed to be a rifle capable of taking any large game in North America. It utilized an internal magazine-fed initially by hand or stripper clip. This way a lever-action rifle could be used with pointed spitzer ammunition. As stated below by Cody Firearms Museum, the advert places the Winchester 1895 at $19.50. This comes out to roughly $619.95 today, woof!
“The original starting price for a Winchester 1895? $19.50 for the base models, as shown in this ad from 1896.”
