YAMAHA’S WOLVERINE X2
Aside from its pure recreational riding value, the Yamaha Wolverine X2 would be the perfect preppers wheeled speed demon. I mean that in the most positive way. Think about being isolated out in the wilds, or at a secluded bug out site and needing convenient transportation around the camp trails, woods roads, and property without tooling about in a full sized vehicle.
Factory specs include an 847cc parallel-twin, liquid cooled, DOHC engine. The engine is fuel injected for reliability. The transmission is an Ultramatic V-belt with all-wheel engine braking with simple gearing in Low, High, Neutral, and Reverse. The on command 3-way locking differential goes from 2WD to 4WD to full differential lock 4WD. Dual hydraulic brakes are front and rear. The wheelbase is 82.7 inches, a turning radius of 177 inches and a maximum ground clearance of 11 inches. The fuel tank holds 9.2 gallons. Weight is 1541 pounds.
The rear bed capacity is 600 pounds with hydraulic assist tilt, heavy duty tailgate latch and multiple tie down points. The towing capacity is rated at 2000 pounds for hauling firewood, gear, game, tools, and other supplies via a standard 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. There are full underbody skid plates to protect everything down under.
In the cab, on board instrumentation is all digital. Vehicle status is clearly displayed. There are odometers, trip and hour meters as well. Headlights and tail lights are LED for minimal power draw. Steering is augmented by electric power steering.
The cabin is roomy, ultra-quiet and ergonomically laid out for easy command and control. High back seats have 3-point seat belts. There are multiple cup holders, and high traction floorboards. The driver’s seat is adjustable as is the steering column for a range of comfort positions. Fully enclosed doors with high, wide fenders help to keep mud, rocks, and sticks outside the cabin when traversing rough terrain.
The exterior includes heavy duty front bumper and a dampened suspension system for a smooth, controllable ride. A roll bar cage gives extra protection for the occupants and could be covered with a soft top for sun and rain protection.
