Picking up a crossbow is a simple way to add potentially months to your whitetail hunting season and one affordable way to get started is with the Barnett Whitetail Hunter II. We had a chance to test out this bow through our sister site CrossbowNation.com.
Barnett lists the specs of the Whitetail Hunter II as follows:
- Speed – 350 Feet Per Second
- Trigger Pull – 3.0 LB
- Width – 16.25″
- Length – 34 1/4″ – 35 1/4″
- Weight – 6.4 LB
- Draw Weight – 150 LB
- Power Stroke – 12 1/2″
Barnett outfitted the Whitetail Hunter II with a Trigger Tech trigger system – easily the best trigger in this price point. There is zero creep in this system, which results in a super crisp release. We measured four pounds of pull in our testing.
The safety on this crossbow is ambidextrous and an anti-dry fire system ensures you can’t accidentally fire the crossbow without an arrow in place.
This crossbow package also comes standard with a 4×32 multi-reticle scope, rope cocking device, three-arrow quiver, two 20-inch Headhunter arrows, and lube wax. The Whitetail Hunter II is compatible with Barnett’s crank cocking device. However, at just 150 pounds, this is an easy crossbow to cock with the provided rope cocking aid.
To help you find the right fit, an adjustable butt stock allows you to adjust the length of the crossbow from 34 1/4″ to 35 1/4″.
Thanks to a polymer stock and rail and a magnesium riser, the Barnett Whitetail II is very light and easy to carry around the woods if you plan to do some spot and stalk.
Barnett designed the crossbow so it’s cables slide on teflon rather than using a floating cable side. We were a bit skeptical of this idea at first, but we haven’t seen any unexpected wear or fraying on the cables in our testing.
The Headhunder arrows in our package weighed in at about 400 grains and we saw speeds of 332 feet per second through our chronograph.
