A Look at the Remington Tac-14 Hardwood at the 2018 SHOT Show

When is a shotgun not a “shotgun?” When it’s a Remington Tac-14, of course. With the Tac-14 Remington carefully navigated the NFA laws to create a “not a shotgun” that is classified instead as just a “firearm” by the ATF. Since the Tac-14 was never designed to accept a shoulder stock, and sports an overall length above 26″, it can use a 14″ barrel without becoming either a NFA regulated Short Barrelled Shotgun (SBS) or Any Other Weapon (AOW). This allows it to be transferred like any other firearm without having to fill out special paperwork with the ATF or pay any special tax.
The original Tac-14 came out last year and sported modern polymer furniture. At the 2018 SHOT Show Remington revealed the Tac-14 version many of us wished for originally. The Remington Tac-14 Hardwood sports a wood police forend and wood birdshead grip and replicates the appearance of the 1980’s era U.S. Marshal Service “Witness Protection” shotguns, complete with the handstop and sling.
