Overlooked Quality AR-15 Magazines

When someone mentions AR-15 magazines, what brands usually come to mind? The answer usually depends on the price range that consumers look at. For the most part, the Pmag and D&H are usually the first magazines that come to mind.
Besides Pmag and D&H, what are some other quality magazines?
With AR-15 magazines there are three different groups. The ones who are willing to spend the money to get top quality, the middle group, and then the ones who only buy the cheapest of the cheap. For the sake of discussion, let’s stay away from the cheapest lowest priced magazines.
NHMTG / Okay Industries
As of the writing of this article, NHMTG AR-15 magazines are going away, which is too bad because they are probably the highest rated magazines on the market. Due to their quality, NHMTG magazines demand a premium price.
NHMTG also manufactures magazines for various brand names.
Okay Industries’ SureFeed magazines are also top quality. These are going to cost just slightly less than the NHMTG. Prices I have seen are anywhere from $9.99-$13.99.
Okay and NHMTG are both aluminum construction.
Troy Battlemag
The Battlemag is the Pmags red headed polymer cousin. I have seen Troy Battlemag prices anywhere from $5.99-$9.99.
There seems to be mixed emotions about the Troy Battlemag AR-15 magazines. Some people swear by them, others curse them.
Maybe people do not trust the Troy because they cost less than the Pmag? Prices I usually see on the Pmag are $9.99-$13.99. Depending on which magazines people are comparing, the Troy might cost half that of the Pmag.
I can understand the caution. However, I have never had an issue with them.
Hexmag
New player in the AR-15 market that seems to be making good impressions. Prices range around $7.99 or so. Which makes them priced right next to the Troy Battlemag.
I have not seen any bad reviews of the Hexmag. Next time I order some AR-15 magazines, I will have to get some of them.
Lancer
An often overlooked brand name in the AR-15 market. What puts me off the Lancer is they are priced slightly more than a Pmag.
Lancers are supposed to have a good reputation. However, I can not bring myself to justify the price when there are so many lower priced quality magazines on the market.
Buyers Market for AR-15 Magazines
As I write this article, I am 49 years old and have been keeping up with the gun market since the 1980s. I have never seen the market flush with so many quality AR-15 products and at such great prices.
If you are sitting on the fence debating on whether to buy AR-15 magazines, I say buy as many as you want now.
This is truly a buyers’ market.
