In a survival situation, food is important. Fishing can be a great way to feed yourself, but if you spend all your time hunkered on the shore, how will you find or build shelter, purify water for drinking, gather firewood, etc?

This video shows how to rig up a fishing pole so that when a fish tugs at the line, it triggers your setup, which yanks on the line to set the hook.
