Watch: Aqua Dam Saved This Texas Prepper’s Home

Preppers are often seen as kooks–until the stuff hits the fan and they’re the only ones who are prepared.

That was the case with Texan Randy Wagner. When the Brazos River flooded, he knew that waters would rise, possibly endangering his home. In his words, “I needed to prepare for something that no one has seen.” So he reportedly did some research and discovered Aqua Dam.

Aqua Dam is a product designed to be filled with water in order to stop water. They make various sizes, and even picture a scene where a 21′ tall Aqua Dam is controlling a 15′ depth of water.

Thankfully, Mr. Wagner didn’t have quite that much water to fight.

The homeowner drove to Louisiana to buy the stuff, which cost about $8300. Working with two other men, Wagner got all of the Aqua Dam tubes (about 400 feet long and 30 inches tall) connected and filled in “a few hours.”

According to Wagner:

I was the crazy guy. Everybody was kinda, y’know, goin’ by laughing at me. But today they’re really impressed with this.

Wagner and his family stayed on site to see what would happen. The flood water reached a depth of 27 inches on the outer side of the 30-inch dam, but it never breached the barrier.

As the man says in the video, $8300 is a small expense when you’re staring at the prospect of massive water damage to your home, which could cost $150,000 or more. It sure does pay to be prepared.

An Aqua Dam might be a good thing to have on hand if you live in a flood-prone area. It sure worked well for Randy Wagner.
