The Real Avid Compact Smart-Torq Adjustable Limiter is not listed on Real Avid’s website (yet), and there is no openly stated MSRP at this time either. Once it becomes available, you will be able to purchase it as an individual gunsmithing tool, or in a package: the new Real Avid Smart-Torq® Adjustable Limiter and X3 Driver™ Kit. The Smart-Torq® Adjustable Limiter is a precision-manufactured, precisely tuned in-lb torque limiter developed specifically for firearm applications. The compact, sleek design stows neatly in the toolbox or on the work bench and is ergonomically designed to ensure a positive grip for securing even high-torque screws.
With the Smart-Torq® Adjustable Limiter, users can adjust for any torque value between 15 and 65 in-lbs. This range covers nearly all scope mount, scope ring, and action screw torque requirements, and does so down to 1 in-lb increments.

Real Avid Smart-Torq Fixed Limiter Torque System

At this tie, Real Avid does not have these listed on their website, but they should be made available soon in a plethora of torque limiter ratings. Sold individually, these torque limiters are available in 7, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20, 25, 30, 35, 45, 50, 65, 80, and 100 Inch-Lb ratings. Each limiter has an MSRP of $24.99. To use, simply install the appropriate Smart-Torq Fixed Limiter to any 1/4-inch driver, fit with the correct driver bit, and tighten the screw. The limiter will “click” when the rated torque value is reached. That’s it.

Achieving the precise torque value on scope mounts, rings, actions screws, and other assorted gun components is critical to firearm performance and to prevent damage to components. Not enough torque and scopes come loose, barreled actions become sloppy, and components may fall off. Too much torque and bad things happen to optics and guns.
