Montana Knife Company (MKC) had done seemingly the impossible when they announced some time ago that they had established a sister-company, or a sub-brand, in MKC Tactical. All of the experience, intelligence, and craftsmanship they had earned and learned over the years they now have bestowed upon MKC Tactical which is the same top-tier quality we have come to know, but with a tactical flair. We previously reviewed their Wargoat – their 1st offering – and now we are going to take a look at another new blade offering in the MKC Tactical TF24 (Task Force-24) knife. Let’s dive in!

A Word from MKC Tactical on the TF24 (Task Force-24) Knife

While we can share specs and be fans of this newly minted brand, sometimes the best thing that you can hear are actual words from the brand itself. So, check out their press release statement below as well as their YouTube video outlining this new knife in excruciating detail.

Meet the Task Force-24 (TF24) — our answer to the call for a true do-it-all tactical blade. This isn’t just another combat knife; it’s a military-grade tool designed for the most demanding situations.

We’ve combined unparalleled utility with uncompromising toughness. The result? A medium-sized powerhouse that feels like a full-sized knife but moves with the agility of a compact blade.

Whether you’re on duty, in the field, or need a dependable form of protection, the TF24 is your steadfast companion.

The Finer Details – MKC Tactical TF24 (Task Force-24) Knife

As with anything hailing from MKC Tactical, this is not “just a knife.” It is significantly much more than that; moreover, MKC Tactical pours a lot more engineering and craftsmanship into their knives than what meets the eye. Some of their most eye-popping details are listed below as presented by MKC Tactical:

  • A Hand-Hugging Powerhouse: The TF24 boasts an ergonomic design that melds seamlessly with your grip. With multiple grip options and a reverse palm swell to prevent rotation, this knife becomes an extension of your arm. From hammer grips to saber holds, the TF24 adapts to your tactical needs with military precision.
  • Cerakoted Magnacut Stainless Steel Blade: The TF24 features a 4-inch drop point blade made of premium Cerakoted MagnaCut stainless steel for maximum durability and minimal rust and glare. We don’t compromise when it comes to steel, and the TF24 is no exception. It’s tough enough to baton through dense materials, precise enough for intricate tasks, and always ready for critical situations.

  • Robust yet Functional Design: The TF24 is built for extreme durability without sacrificing freedom of use. The thick blade stock and protruding pommel provide the heft needed for demanding tasks, while the carefully engineered handle ensures comfort during extended operations. It’s overbuilt in all the right places without compromising on agility.
  • Multi-Grip for Versatile Deployment: From the generous guard to the strategically placed dimples, every aspect of the TF24 is designed for adaptability. Switch grips instantly, whether you’re breaching obstacles or defending your position. This knife doesn’t just adapt to different situations — it excels in them.

Field Use – MKC Tactical TF24 (Task Force-24) Knife

So, how did this perform in the field?… This simplistic looking knife from its exterior – as we have already outlined – has a lot more hidden utility and value than you might expect. I appreciated the jimping on the spine of the full tang blade so that your thumb would have added dexterity when making pushing or pressing cutting movements.

Additionally, I appreciated how thick this blade is. It feels strong and substantial to work with, and I feel like I can be more aggressive with it while retaining my confidence in its performance.

Towards the rear of the MKC Tactical TF24, I appreciated that they laid down a track of jimping there as well. Then, if you need to pummel or push the blade into something you have a better proprioceptive index on the palm of your hand. Also, right next to this rear jimping is a simple lanyard loop that adds value of you want this clipped somehow to a bag or your person.

Looking at the butt end of this knife, not only is the blade and its full tang thick which inspires confidence, but the handles are larger as well. I like a knife that is thick enough to fill my hand – it won’t be “swimming” because its so thin – yet not too large where it feels like a 2×4. This knife walks that line beautifully. For me being a 6’0″ male of a 180 Lb athletic build and an average hand size, this knife fit in my hand beautifully.

Finally, it cannot be overstated how nice it is that MKC Tactical includes a custom-molded MKC Ulticlip sheath for this knife. Every knife I have ever handled from Montana Knife Company and MKC Tactical has been insanely sharp (its awesome and almost a problem when you’re used to dull competitors). So, having a molded sheath to safely house and transport the MKC Tactical TF24 is important and appreciated.

Departing Thoughts

So, what are my final thoughts on the MKC Tactical TF24 (Task Force-24) knife?… This knife meets all of the parameters I would have for a knife that you would deem “tactical.” That can sometimes be an overused buzzword, but MKC Tactical does it right. This blade is hefty for strength, rigidity, and confidence without being overly thick and unwieldy. It has the sexy aesthetic lines of a knife that you’d imagine seeing on an operator – but lucky for us – that can be you and me. It is absurdly sharp, retains its edge, and it is so robust that you can use it for squirrely things like pummeling, stabbing, and carving. Whether those use-cases be against a pumpkin, wood logs, or a foe. The MSRP of $425 might be high for some folks, but I assure you, it is worth it.

In closing, I want to say thank you to Montana Knife Company and MKC Tactical for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Montana Knife Company MKC Tactical TF24 (Task Force-24) knife in a Black/OD Green colorway. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think?
