AllOutdoor Review: Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera
Adam Scepaniak 11.03.24
We have come a long way over the years in the tactics and technology that we use to go whitetail deer hunting and how we pursue other game animals as well. From simple spot-n-stalk techniques to now hanging off of the side of a tree “saddle hunting.” From catching gossip at the local diner as to where the “big boy” was last seen by farmers to now having photos instantaneously beamed to our phones the moment it happens. Times have changed and the tech has improved! One tool that nearly all hunters like to deploy are trail cameras because they can be a wealth of information. To know what is/isn’t on your property, when animals are active, and to even be aware if that all too friendly neighbor is forgetting where the property lines are again. For all of those reasons, I was excited to hear this year that – yet again – Moultrie Mobile had delivered to us another new iteration of their cellular trail cameras in the Edge 2 Pro. Touting a bevy of new features, we are going to take a look here today at the Edge 2 Pro after I have had it out in the field in central Minnesota for the past 3 months. Let’s dive in!

A Word from Moultrie Mobile on the NEW Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera
The new Edge 2 Pro is a refinement of the cellular trail cameras that Moultrie debuted last year in the Edge and Edge Pro. Like a fine wine, Moultrie continues to distill down the best features, as well as improved ones, into future models so you are getting the best trail camera possible. In a short yet succinct press release statement, Moultrie Mobile shares their thoughts below:
Introducing the EDGE 2 PRO Cellular Trail Camera – the ultimate upgrade for whitetail hunters. Building on the impressive features of the EDGE 2, the PRO version is designed to capture more in the field, fast, and with greater precision.
What’s the Upsell to the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro?
So, what sets this cellular trail camera apart from prior ones that Moultrie has produced in the past, or even their competitors?… For one, the Edge 2 Pro has the exciting feature of being able to basically “summon” an “on demand” photo. Did you just get a notification someone is walking around your treestand, shed, or property? Call for an “on demand” photo or video to figure out what’s going on remotely. That’s rad!
You also have GPS integrated into the camera so you always know where your cameras are. Did one fall off your 4-wheeler driving across your property? Pull out the Moultrie app and locate where it is. You also get 21st century tech like AI (artificial intelligence) assistance in reducing false triggers, improving battery life, and an extended detection range.
Advanced Features
- On Demand: Remotely trigger a photo or video, and update settings at any time, directly from the Moultrie Mobile app
- GPS: Never lose track of your camera with integrated GPS, viewable in the Moultrie Mobile app
- Moultrie Mobile A.I.: Reduces false triggers, extends battery life, and allows you to fine-tune what your camera captures, ensuring you get only the pictures you want.
Detection
- Lightning-Fast Trigger Speed: With a 0.30-second trigger speed, your target is perfectly centered in the frame.
- QHD Photos and Video: Capture 40MP images and 1440p videos with sound, delivering crystal-clear quality for beautiful outdoor shots.
- Detection Range: The EDGE 2 Pro boasts a 100-foot detection and flash range for long-range scouting.
- No-Glow Flash: Ensures that nighttime shots are captured in complete darkness – without alerting game or intruders – with a flash that’s invisible to the naked eye.
What’s in the Box? Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro
A basic, but important question many prospective buyers want to ask is: “what’s in the box?” This lets you know what extra accessories you may or may not need to get your trail camera up-and-running. So, this is everything that you can come to expect with your purchase of a new Edge 2 Pro cellular trail camera.

Installation & Setup – Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro
Installation of your Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro is super simple. You have internal storage so there is no need for switching out SD cards. Once you load up the camera with batteries, it will Auto Connect to the strongest cell signal that it can get. Then, with the assistance of a Live Aim feature and a mounting bracket, you can get your camera setup perfectly. We outlined this in a previous “Home on the Range” article, and Moultrie explains activating your cellular trail camera in their own words below:
- Included Easy-Aim Mount: Helps you achieve the perfect angle for your camera – eliminating the “stick wedge” method
- Live Aim: Instantly preview the camera’s field of view in the Moultrie Mobile App, allowing for precise setup and alignment in real-time, instead taking multiple test pictures.
- Auto-Connect: Nationwide Coverage on all 4 major network. EDGE 2 PRO automatically connects to the strongest network
- Built-In Memory: Photos and videos are stored on the camera; No SD card required.
- Push the boundaries of cellular trail camera technology with EDGE 2 PRO, and never miss a moment.
Field Use – Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro
So, how did the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera perform out in the field?… I have had one of these cameras on my property for over 3 months now. I placed it out in the woods back in the middle of July when whitetail deer sightings were slow. I used a mineral block to pull in game (legal in my state and jurisdiction of Minnesota), and hoped for the best. The first unfortunate thing that occurred is upon activating my camera and placing it out, the batteries got drained and died within 48 hours?! Super peculiar so I called Moultrie’s customer service line for some help. They stated it sounded like a fluke (to which I agreed), and it could have been a poorly-made batch of batteries. So, I threw a new set of batteries in there and have been good-to-go ever since.
It started out slow at first, but eventually the photos started to pour in as wildlife began to find my mineral blocks and smile for the camera.
I had everything from whitetail does, fawns, bucks, and even raccoons regularly coming in to my mineral blocks and posing for the camera.
The raccoons looked like they were straight up throwing a party at night as sometimes 5 or more of these chonkers would show up at one time.
It was even cool to see an “old western standoff” between 3 bucks who came in at the same time.
One piece that I never used from my Moultrie Edge 2 Pro was the back attachment for achieving the perfect angle on your trail camera. The tree that I attached my camera to gave me the perfect angle without the need of this additional piece. So, although I never needed it, I am glad that Moultrie is thoughtful enough to include with your purchase.
The bucks are definitely getting close to the rut because their necks are getting swollen and there is more traffic everyday. So, hopefully one of these beautiful whitetail bucks passing in front of me or one of my family members during the upcoming firearm season.
Departing Thoughts
So, what are my final thoughts on the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera?… Overall, I am impressed and I believe that this camera delivers on its promise of offering more value and features than ever before. If I were to deploy this camera on my shed as a pseudo-surveillance system, the “On Demand” feature would be fantastic. I never used it out in the woods watching raccoons and whitetail deer, but that is an amazing feature. Throughout the 3 months out in the field, I had good battery life other than the flukey thing that initially happened. I also got nearly no phantom or false trigger photos (pictures of the wind blowing tree limbs, etc). So, that made me happy I’m not unnecessarily burning through battery or wasting memory. For anyone who is wanting to dive in on the new Edge 2 Pro, it will be money well spent towards all of your hunting endeavors.
In closing, I want to say thank you to Moultrie Mobile for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their new Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think?
