POTD: The NotAWalther – SIG Sauer P230 Pistol

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Born in 1977 amid West Germany’s fight against terrorism, the SIG Sauer P230 brought European elegance to compact handguns. This sleek defender packed 8 rounds of .32 ACP or 7 rounds of .380 Auto into a slim frame perfect for concealed carry or backup duty. With its fixed barrel and straight blowback design, the P230 earned a reputation for reliability. Available in classic blued steel with aluminum frame or all stainless steel, it featured SIG’s signature dot-and-rectangle sights and a decocking lever for safe carry. The double/single action trigger gave shooters options, while the wrap-around grips provided solid control. In 1996, the improved P232 took over with 60 design changes, including a drop safety and better sights. But by 2014, the market had shifted toward lighter, cheaper .380s, and U.S. imports ended. Though its time passed, the Sig 230 represented a bridge between Cold War police weapons and modern concealed carry pistols.
