New Barrel, Less Kick! Springfield Armory Echelon Comp 4.5F 9mm
Adam Scepaniak 09.24.24
We have seen quite a few new handgun variations to come out from Springfield Armory this year sporting integrally compensated barrels because of the bevy of benefits they provide us as shooters. First, was the Hellcat Pro. Next, came the 1911 DS Prodigy. Now, we have a new Echelon Comp 4.5F 9mm offering. This gives the Echelon even less recoil and a flatter shooting experience for those who are carrying one for duty, compete with it, or use one for self-defense.

Springfield Armory Echelon Comp 4.5F 9mm
The new Echelon Comp is going to be offered in 3 new variants (3 different magazine sizes based on the local laws of where you live). All of them are going to have an MSRP of $749 making them $70 more expensive than a standard Echelon, but in reality, a $70 upcharge for a ported barrel is extremely cheap; that’s one hell of a bargain.

A Word from Springfield Armory
The Echelon Comp is an exciting addition to the Echelon family of handguns, and Springfield is equally ecstatic to share the news via their press release statement below:
Built around a robust stainless steel chassis, the Echelon™ Comp 9mm handgun features an integral compensator with a single port on the hammer-forged slide and barrel, reducing muzzle rise for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. The revolutionary optics mounting system offers unparalleled adaptability with today’s most respected red dot sights, while fully ambidextrous controls and interchangeable backstraps accommodate a broad range of shooters. The Echelon Comp includes both a 17-round and a 20-round magazine for added versatility.
What is the Secret Sauce in a Compensated Barrel?
Some people might be wondering, “what is so special about having a compensated barrel?” Well, we’re glad you asked. Springfield elaborates on why their integrally compensated barrel is so helpful to shooters:
The integral compensator featured on the Echelon Comp is discreetly designed with a single port on the top of the hammer-forged slide and barrel. Redirecting gas upwards, it effectively reduces muzzle rise and enhances control. The result is a pistol that delivers faster and more accurate follow-up shots. In addition, the front sight is positioned behind the compensator for an uninterrupted sight picture.
