Field Use – Wiley X WX Founder Men’s Safety Sunglasses

Now, onto the important field notes: how did this pair of protective eyewear actually perform during use?… From the start, I found these to be very comfortable under earmuffs. They established good, full eye coverage which was appreciated during durations of bright sun exposure as well as shooting steel targets at close distances where spalling is a concern. I chose not to wear the sideguards, but do appreciate that they are built in as an option.

The bulk of my use with these sunglasses were inside an indoor shoot-house using simunition rounds at close distances on targets. So, similar to my concerns of shooting live ammunition outdoors on steel, the Wiley X WX Founder kept me safe while shooting sim rounds as well.

Additionally, I wore them at night for a weapon-mounted light (WML), night shoot. Although, the Wiley X WX Founder sunglasses were tinted, their tint was a pure, clean colored lens and I could still perform, see, and engage targets in the dark under only the light from a Modlite flashlight.

Outside of my use on a flat gun range, an indoor shoot-house, and while shooting at night I found these sunglasses to be very aesthetically attractive glasses. They frame my head well and are something I would want to use while driving or simply out in public with my wife. They don’t scream “gun glasses,” yet they’re able to give me all of the benefits I’m looking for in shooting glasses. For those reasons, they are quite the chameleon.

Final Thoughts – Wiley X WX Founder Men’s Safety Sunglasses

So, what are my final thoughts on the Wiley X WX Founder Men’s Safety Sunglasses?… Overall, I thought these sunglasses performed wonderfully. Through a gauntlet of shooting styles – daytime, nighttime, outdoor, indoor, live rounds, sim rounds – these glasses protected me from any and all spalling and/or splashback. Additionally, they were comfortable to wear all day long even with over-the-head earmuffs. If anyone is contemplating running or purchasing a set of these, don’t hesitate – they are worth it.
