AllOutdoor Review: Sink or Swim?… Yeti Gobox 15 Gear Case

We are all familiar with the name Yeti, industry leaders in keeping things cold. Whether it be a giant Tundra 350 cooler to keep a boat’s limit of snapper and grouper cold, or the tumbler to keep you hydrated while you were catching the fish, we all know Yeti makes quality gear. Sticking with the motto of “Built Yeti Tough” they have entered into the gear case market with the new GoBox line of rugged hard cases, built to keep your gear organized, dry, and free of mud and dirt. Today, I’ll be reviewing the smallest and most portable model of these cases, the Yeti GoBox 15, so let’s get into it.

Specifications – Yeti GoBox 15 Gear Case

The Yeti GoBox 15 Gear case looks pretty similar to the rotomolded coolers that Yeti is well known for, but the GoBox is not an insulated product meant to keep things cold. Instead, the GoBox is meant to be the ultimate storage solution, for whatever tools and gear you need to be protected from the elements. Out in the Wild – Yeti Loadout GoBox 15 Gear Case

I have been taking this particular GoBox 15 around for the past 6 months now. It has been with me all over, from the southernmost tip of Florida, the mountains of West Virginia, and even over 150 miles offshore in the Atlantic. Being the smallest GoBox option from Yeti it is incredibly portable, making for a great case to store anything you need on the go. So taking advantage of that portability I loaded up the GoBox with whatever kit I needed for my travels, adjusting depending on the trip. It was nice not to have to worry about having my gear walking away because of its locking ports and tough build. I could just leave it locked up to a tie-down point. I took it down to the Keys loading it up with everything I would need to fish while exploring down there. 900 miles of travel through several storm systems and not a drop of water or speck of dirt got in.

The GoBox 15 also went up to West Virginia with me for the road trip to Moons Out Goons Out as an emergency/booboo kit. The caddy lets you sort your gear, keeping things apart in the three compartments, so I had an IFAK, spare tourniquets, and batteries up top. While in the bottom of the box, I had bigger items like a cleaning kit, tools, and spare ear pro.

When taking the GoBox 15 with us offshore while chasing tuna, kept everything dry and free of salt which was a rare luxury out there past the Gulf Stream. The box is both convenient to take around and more spacious than you’d think. I was able to fit a spare set of clothes to change into in the box with our camera gear and emergency gear in the GoBox. So when I got soaked by some spray right before dark when we were going to do a long run back the house, that spare set of clothes came in clutch.

Final Thoughts – Yeti GoBox 15 Gear Case

After having the GoBox 15 for the past six months, my final thoughts on it are that this is a quality product that has been built to last. Yes the MSRP of $125 is a big pill to swallow for a lot of people, and this gear case might not be for everyone. But when I consider what I had used the GoBox 15 to store emergency equipment and electronics while on the go I see the value. Even after all the miles, all the weather, and dirt. The inside of the GoBox 15 is still clean, I never had an issue with water intrusion even when I had to drive through flood conditions during a tropical system, The only dirt and dust that got in the box was from me throwing some of my gear that I dropped into the mud. Even with it rolling around the back of my truck when not secured the most wear it has is a few scuffs on the side, the defender material that makes up the box is honestly as tough as they say. I say if you need a secure place to store sensitive gear when you are outside or traveling, this is the gear case for you. I can see the GoBox 15 lasting me for years to come.
