AllOutdoor Review: AIRfeet Tactical 02 Feather Light Insoles

Launched in 2011 into marathon and running events, Airfeet has carved a distinctive niche in the footwear industry with its innovative and ergonomic insole technology. The company emerged from a commitment to enhancing everyday well-being through thoughtful design. Initially established in response to the growing demand for foot health solutions, Airfeet gained recognition for its dynamic air cushioning system, which adapts to the contours of the wearer’s feet. Over the years, the company has expanded its product line, combining cutting-edge materials and biomechanical expertise to create footwear that not only addresses foot-related issues but also promotes overall health and mobility. With a history rooted in a passion for improving the way people walk, stand, and live, Airfeet continues thier mission to improve the way we all move. A few months ago I was walking around the clothing and supply store on base and noticed the AIRfeet Tactical 02 on the shelves. I was intrigued enough by the concept and packaging of the product that I bought them right there on the spot and through them in my military duty boots once I got home that evening.

The AIRfeet Tactical 02 was purchased privately by myself and AIRfeet has not been allowed to preview the article prior to its publication. The boots I wore throughout the duration of my testing with the AIRfeet Tactical 02 were the Salomon Guardian Forces. I tested the the insoles over the course of a month with 3 weeks of that testing being at the U.S. Army Survival, Escape, Resistance, and Evasion (SERE) course where my feet were soaked in water and mud a good portion of the time. The Tactical 02 variations of these insoles is sold exclusively on military installations but I’m led to believe they are pretty much that same as AIRfeet’s Outdoor 02 variation.

The side of the packaging the insoles came in says “The Best Weird You’ll Ever Feel”.  The whole idea behind the AIRfeet Tactical 02’s is that, and I know this may come as a surprise, but they are filled with air! No foam is to be found inside these guys. Naturally when you first put these on it’s going to feel very weird. I thought they felt so weird that I considered not even keeping them in my boots at first. After a few minutes, my feet adjusted to the feeling of the insoles and the only time I was reminded of their weirdness was when I put my boots back on.

Something I really want to highlight here is the fact that these insoles are completely waterproof. While I was at the U.S. Army Survival, Escape, Resistance, and Evasion (SERE) course there were many times when I needed to get my boots wet in rivers and mud, my feet and boots dried out considerably faster than my teammates. This was a big boost to my morale as SERE is not a very fun course so I was taking small victories wherever I could. This is a pretty nice feature in my opinion.

While these insoles do feel funny at first I can’t confidently say my feet ached or had any more or less pain while wearing them. I felt like I was just as nimble on my feet as I would be in a pair of traditional insoles. I should mention that these insoles are reversible so you can have the black side facing up if you don’t like the look of the multi-cam.

Likes

  • Water Proof
  • Extremely thin in boot

Dislikes

  • Expensive, $42 is a lot to ask for insoles
  • Strange marketing in my opinion

Wrap Up – AIRfeet Tactical 02

AllOutdoor Review: AIRfeet Tactical 02 Feather Light Insoles

While I can’t speak to them in the long term, the AIRfeet Tactical 02 have been pretty solid for me in the short term. I was pretty apprehensive about them at first due to how much the company likes to talk about the medical benefits of their products using very vague terms like pain levels because pain is not a subjective thing. With that being said maybe they just have a bad marketing team over at AIRfeet because at this point I do believe that they are making a good product that could help a lot of people out with foot ad back pain. I personally am still pretty young and don’t have a lot of that kind of pain so I can’t say either way if the AIRfeet Tactical 02 will reduce that for you. If these insole intrigue you, I would go ahead and give them a shot but don’t expect them to solve you back problems. I’ll be keeping my pair mainly for their water resistance and to see how i feel about them in 6 months.
