A good pair of binoculars are in the list of essential gear for most hunters and outdoorsman. Being able to scan for game animals with clarity and range to ensure positive target identification or spot features is a must. Each time I’ve ventured into the woods during hunting season, just to realize I forgot a pair of binoculars, felt like I should just hike back out of the woods. While binoculars can be had for any conceivable price, sometimes It’s nice to have a good pair that fits a budget, especially in today’s ever more expensive world. Companies like Athlon Optics have done an outstanding job of giving hunters affordable options for optics that do not skimp on glass quality and rugged design features. The Athlon ARGOS G2 UHD is one of those.

Athlon ARGOS G2 UHD 8x42mm Binoculars
The Argos G2 8×42 UHD has a secure, ergonomic, and comfortable one-handed grip. They come with superior quality Advanced fully multi-coated lenses for sharp contrast, true color, and excellent light gathering capabilities. They also have Bak-4 prism glass featuring Extra-Low Dispersion lenses and our new ESP Dielectric coating and phase correction for color fidelity and sharpness. Argon gas purging makes the Argos G2 binoculars waterproof and fog proof. A light weight magnesium alloy chassis reduces weight, taking strain off of your neck but makes it strong enough for the harshest environments.

The ARGOS G2 series are in the middle of the pack when it comes to Athlon’s binocular lineup, with a very reasonable MSRP of $287.49, there are more affordable options from other companies. While you can find cheaper binos, I would have a hard time believing there is another pair in this price range that has the optical clarity of these. From the moment I took them out of the box, I was floored at how clear these really are. Optical companies marketing with terms like UHD or HD makes no sense to me as we do not live in a digital world where things like pixel resolution are a thing, I get what they are trying to do. The “UHD” glass, is spectacular. The overall fit and finish are quite good as well. The focus ring has the right amount of resistance, as do the interpupilary adjustment and the diopter. Getting the ARGOS G2 adjusted for your own vision takes seconds.
In the Field – Athlon ARGOS G2 UHD 8x42mm Binoculars
I took the ARGOS G2 on a few white tail hunts this past season, where I was able to utilize the large objective lens to their max. Early morning and late afternoon hunts were a breeze with the outstanding light transmission. The ARGOS G2 were able to keep me in the field until the last possible second of legal shooting light, allowing me to get positive identification on white tail. I cannot stress enough how impressive these binoculars truly are.
I later handed them off to a friend of mine to take on a few white tail bow hunts to help gauge his opinion and feedback on the ARGOS G2. After his hunt, he told me, “I’m replacing my scope on my hunting rifle with an Athlon.” His experience was exactly the same as mine, he was floored at the clarity of the glass, ease of use, and light transmission. His previous pair of binoculars have since been replaced with a pair of ARGOS G2, which he was able to find on sale for a pretty incredible price.
Not once while using these binoculars did I have any functional issues, no fogging, no focus issues, no binding. Weather here in Alabama during the later half of white tail season can have temperature changes of 50 degrees in one day. It can be well below freezing in the morning, and low 70s and humid in the day. I’ve always said, Alabama is the great equalizer when it comes to antifog coatings, and the Athlon ARGOS G2 did exceptionally well.

If you made it this far in this review, it is probably pretty obvious that these binoculars are a very high recommend. If you are in the market for a pair of binoculars, you should take a very close look at the ARGOS G2. These impressed me so much, I purchased a pair of ARGOS G2 HD for my mother to use while bird watching. I am sold on these binoculars and will not be hunting without them.
