Home on the Range #058: Custom Springfield 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife
Adam Scepaniak 10.29.23
Last week on “Home on the Range,” we discussed the Montana Knife Co (MKC) Speedgoat knife and how it performed for us camping and processing meat. It is that time of year where we are spending more time in the outdoors so knives become an even more valuable tool. So, this week we are going to take a look at another knife in the Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting. Meant to be paired with one of Springfield Armory’s 2020 Waypoint or Redline rifles, we will see how this knife fares in campfire food fare as well as processing a whitetail deer from Minnesota. Let’s dive in!

Field Use – Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for Hunting
The Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting is something that my wife and I took with us camping on Lake Superior in the last month, and more recently, I assisted in processing a whitetail deer that my mother harvested with her crossbow. One of my favorite features on this knife is the jimping on the front and back of the blade’s spine making it easier to do both delicate carving work as well as chopping movements.
This knife has good length to it – long enough to fit an entire hand yet not so long that it is unwieldy or falls into a “filet knife” category. I could also feel that the full tang makes it feel strong and handle well. It feels durable enough for any task that you might command it to accomplish.
From the curb appeal department, the carbon fiber grip is aesthetically attractive and durable. Also, the green Cerakote finish compliments the grip well and also adds some durability into the mix, too. Couple these elements with a lanyard loop (which I appreciated), and you have functionality, performance, and looks all bundle into a neat little knife package.
Throughout the entire project of processing a whitetail deer, the Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting still had a sharp edge and tip. This impressed me a lot because I normally need to stop what I’m doing multiple times to sharpen my knives when processing a whitetail deer from start-to-finish. From the time you drop an animal on the ground, field-dress/gut it, cape/pelt it, cut fat from meat cuts, and create individual cuts of meat. This entails cutting through sinew, fat, tendons, ligaments, and accidentally cutting a lot of bone surfaces. All of this is normally prone to drastically dulling a knife, but the Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting held up phenomenally well.
Final Thoughts – Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for Hunting
So, what are my final thoughts on the Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting?… Overall, it executed above its paygrade. The knife handles well, it is sexy looking, will perfectly match your Model 2020 Waypoint rifle, and outperformed any knife I have ever tested that retails for $250 or less. The Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting might only be a complimentary offering within Springfield Armory’s portfolio, but this thing performs wonderfully. Like Doug Marcaida would say: “It will cut!”
In closing, I want to say thank you to Springfield Armory for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Custom Springfield Armory Model 2020 Carbon Fiber Knife for hunting.
