The Path Less Traveled #080 – NEW, Exclusive Limmer Boots Released!
Andrew D 09.04.23
So as you guys know, I’m a weight weenie with a love for quality craftmanship like what Limmer Boots has been doing for over 100 years. Back in 1919, Peter Limmer Sr. began crafting leather boots to a strict level of quality that have been known to last a lifetime, some even being resoled five times over two generations! Now that steam has picked up, Limmer Boots has decided to broaden their Ready to Order line!

The Legend of Limmer Boots
Since 2015 the company has operated by two names: Peter Limmer & Sons Inc. and Limmer Boots LLC. Peter Limmer & Sons is the part that hand crafts boots made to last longer than a crate full of 91/30’s. They’re the kind of boots you wear when going out with your Ruger No. 1 to bag a deer a few miles into the woods from where you parked your Polaris Ranger. These are the custom, handmade boots that if you order now, you could probably get by the time your 2021 tax filings are no longer able to be audited.
Limmer Boots LLC has teamed up with Bavarian boot maker, Meindl. Meindl has been making boots since the 1680’s and has the craftsmanship to meet Limmer Boots’ exacting standards. Limmer Boots currently produces the following models of Ready to Order boots:
The Standard
- The Midweight (and women’s version)
- The Lightweight (and women’s version)
- The Oxford
- The Walker
With a pair of boots like these, especially at these prices, you’re wondering what the repair, resoling and warranty guides are like, no? Limmer states they are committed to helping you protect your investment in our boots for many years to come by using a lasting system that comes as close to your foot as possible. Resoling a boot is standard issue for Limmer, and they recommend using their boot grease to ensure the leather doesn’t dry out. They will even repair a pair of boots eaten by your dog, or hit by a stray axe swing! All in all, they’ve got you covered once you have their boots in your hands, er, on your feet.
Limmer Boots Releasing TWO New Models
I have been in contact with Chris Sawyer of Limmer Boots for most of 2023 and have learned of two new model of boots that are going to be released some time in the near future, one being released some time in Fall 2023.
We both believe the boots to be incredible for a wide variety of uses, especially when durability, dependability, protection, support, and fit are at the top of a customer’s needs.
Related to shifting trends, we will be reintroducing “The Ultralight” hiking boot, and a new shoe, “The Hiker,” which we hope customers who are looking for something a little lighter will enjoy.
My personal preference has always been The Lightweight, which molds to your feet and feels like a tennis shoe with incredible protection/support, once broken in of course Attached is a photo of mine which were purchased in December 2003, they are my most trusted companions. – Chris Sawyer
Limmer Boots – The Hiker
Pre-orders are currently open for the Hiker model with a $40 deposit, and MSRP being $385. The Limmer Boots Hiker model is based off the Lightweight model, but appear more like a low-top. I guess that’s the trend these days with everyone wearing their trail runners across the entire Appalachian Trail. A full leather upper provides durability and will over the years become a replica of your own feet.
With a full gusseted tongue all the way down to the toe box, complete adjustability will be easy when lacing these up.
Despite weighing two pounds, the shoes have a gnarly 6 mm Meindl Multigrip 3 Alpin sole by Vibram. The midsole is also provided by Vibram to add comfort across the years these shoes will see.
The Hiker model still has a reinforced and protected toe tip, with double amounts of durable leather up front.
A full length nylon shank, very similar to the one in the Lightweight model will provided flexion and rigidity to the shoe, and help protect from rocks or other penetrants. Once again, a full leather lining, insole, and heel pad takes pride in how long these shoes will last.
Limmer Boots – The Ultralight
Not much is known about the Ultralight as of yet. Chris has stated that Meindl is in production and news will be coming soon. Will we see a Limmer Boot that weighs less than a pound per shoe? Believe me, I’m excited to learn more as I continue to pester him on the phone!
