The Path Less Traveled #078: NEMO Tracker OSMO Backpacking Tent
Andrew D 07.31.23
I know, You guys know I enjoy NEMO sleeping pads and some of their other gear. When writing a press release for the NEMO Tracker OSMO Ultralight Backpacking Tent, I’m thinking about several things. While priced appropriate with the tech included, the value of a lifetime warranty prevents me on ever being worried about throwing out a few Benjamins to them.
The Nemo Tracker OSMO is just one of many things First Lite and Nemo have teamed up on to provide outdoorsmen with durable, light equipment that can handle more than a few nights on a groomed trail.

Company Info: First Lite
First Lite crafts top-notch hunting apparel for passionate hunters whether you’re in a tree stand, a duck hole, or on an epic expedition. They started when Kenton Carruth and Scott Robinson discovered merino wool’s wonders during fall hunts. They envisioned merino in effective camouflage for hunting, and thus, First Lite was born. Eventually a high-performance synthetic outerwear was developed with Cocona, known for their groundbreaking technology. The fabric breathes well and offers unmatched protection from the elements.
Product Info: Nemo Tracker OSMO
NEMO has come out with an upgraded version of their Tracker line for one or two person tents named the Tracker OSMO series.
The Tracker OSMO is available in both 1-person and 2-person options, priced at $429.95 and $459.95 respectively. This tent is the ultimate companion for hunting or backwoods adventures, whether you’re chasing early-season elk or venturing out in the fall.
One of the standout features of the Tracker OSMO is its innovative OSMO fabric. This composite weave of nylon and polyester yarns offers superior water resistance and waterproofness without the use of harmful PFAS. It is also made from 100% recycled materials. The fabric is also incredibly durable, stretching 3 times less when wet and boasting 20% more strength than similar materials on the market.
The asymmetrical design of the Tracker OSMO provides ample headspace and gear storage while maintaining a minimal packed weight. The Flybar pole clip adds volume at the head of the tent, ensuring a comfortable and spacious interior. Additionally, the tent features a Landing Zone removable gear tub, offering waterproof storage for your belongings.
When it comes to durability, the Tracker OSMO is built to withstand inclement weather. The silicone-coated floor and full-coverage rainfly with a snow skirt provide maximum protection against the elements. The tent is equipped with lightweight USA made Easton Syclone poles, allowing for quick and easy setup, even in challenging conditions. The pole and rainfly connection system is stupid-proof with two slotted areas specifically meant for each part.
“We are excited to introduce the Tracker OSMO as a reliable and high-performance shelter for outdoor adventurers,” said Randy Gaetano, Creative Content Director at NEMO Equipment. “With its innovative features and durable construction, this tent is designed to enhance your outdoor experience and provide the utmost comfort and protection.”
The Tracker OSMO comes with a range of additional features, including color-coded webbing and NEMO-exclusive Axial corner anchors for easy setup, premium OSMO ripstop floor with single-seam construction, and a full-coverage rainfly and snow skirt for complete weather protection. The tent is also backed by the NEMO Lifetime Warranty, ensuring peace of mind for outdoor enthusiasts.
Included with the Tracker OSMO tent are stakes, guy-out cord, repair patches, and the Divvy Cube stuff sack, a rectangular bag optimized for efficient packing and weight distribution.
Observations:
At first, I began to scoff at the Tracker OSMO as a gussied up Hornet OSMO, but there are a few added treats that don’t add weight.
Nemo Tracker OSMO is an improved version of their normal Tracker tent, but with better rainfly and floor materials. They’re using the OSMO material, which is poly-nylon ripstop fabric has 4x longer lasting water repellency (1500mm floor/1200mm rainfly) and 3x less stretch when wet compared to typical nylon tent materials. (Normal Tracker uses 15D Sil/PeU Nylon Ripstop 1200 mm floor and rainfly) OSMO materials also avoid forever chemicals & extra carbon emissions.
Packed weight for the 2-person is less than 100 grams less than the original Tracker 2p and $200 more.
The Tracker OSMO has kept the snow skirts that the original Tracker has despite it being a 3-season tent. This confused me a bit until I started thinking about early sprint and late fall hunting trips in Idaho where First Lite is located. I bet a three season tent that could still handle six inches of snow is beneficial. The tall bathtub floor only having one seam, then 20d wind-walls in it will definitely help with this too!
There is also a waterproof “Landing Zone” that fits in the vestibule to keep gear dry and off the ground, but not inside the tent. I thought this was nifty, but also wondered whether you could use the packing cube on the other side of the vestibule for your boots.
The colors of the Tracker OSMO Ultralight Backpacking Tent are great for outdoors hunters, and we know we’re not going to be using the 1p when out with all the gear hoofed up the mountain.
But the Hornet Elite OSMO 2 Person has some traits to look at too:
- Four inches lower height (37 inches vs. 41 inches for the Tracker OSMO 2p)
- Five inches shorter (85 inches vs. 90 inches for the Tracker OSMO 2p)
- $190 More expensive ($649.95, vs. $459.95 for the Tracker OSMO 2p)
- 395 g lighter packed weight at 2 lb , 1 oz / 935 g (vs. 2 lb , 15 oz / 1.33 kg for Tracker Osmo 2p)
Any of the tents mentioned in this article are good. I don’t recommend garbage, and in a press release, I am providing you information about the Tracker OSMO. Whether 290 grams will make you decided between the Hornet OSMO or the Tracker OSMO is all up to you!
