POTD: Too Light to Fall…I Mean Fail – Winchester Model 59

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an image of the Winchester Model 59, a semi-automatic 12 Gauge shotgun. These particular shotguns were known as “Win-Lite” due to their featherweight design, tipping the scales at just 6.5 pounds. The receiver is made of aluminum, while the barrel features a fiberglass shroud encasing a steel core. They boasted fixed chokes and operated similarly to Winchester shotguns that came later. Although these shotguns had a relatively short presence in Winchester’s catalog, they gained immense popularity among bird hunters for their lightweight nature and versatility. Personally, I had the opportunity to disassemble and clean one, and I found it incredibly intriguing. The gun is exceptionally light! In fact, it feels delicately lightweight to the touch.
