Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a cool non-lever gun in 30-30. This is the Stevens 325, a bolt action magazine fed 30-30. Introduced in 1947, the Model 325 was an odd and unexpected innovation by Stevens. This particular brush gun was notable for its cost-effectiveness, achieved through the use of stamped parts, making it affordable for the average consumer. While it is confirmed that the 325 initially incorporated surplus post-wartime parts and design techniques, there is uncertainty surrounding the origin of its barrels, with claims suggesting they might have been surplus 30 caliber machine gun barrels. A fascinating aspect of this claim is the utilization of a barrel retaining nut similar to those found in machine guns, a barrel nut design still employed by Savage in their current production models.
