Everybody Stand Up! LyteHorse Debuts a Stand-Up Electric ATV
Adam Scepaniak 05.31.23
For all of us who spend countless hours in the outdoors, we are very familiar with ATV (all-terrain vehicles) and UTV (utility task vehicles) machines because of the use we can get out of them hunting, scouting, ranching, working, and simply making our lives easier. What if that age-old design got flipped on its head though? What if you didn’t even need to sit down to operate one? That is exactly what Lytehorse has done with their Stand-Up Electric ATV.

Lytehorse is a newer name in the world of ATVs/UTVs, but they are already sending ripples throughout the industry with an all-electric design that allows you to stand up while driving as well. Some people might be a skeptic, but the jury is already in. In a lot of ways, a stand-up electric ATV is significantly better than a traditional combustion engine, sit down model. All of the nitty-gritty specs for the Lytehorse Stand-Up Electric ATV can be read below as presented by Lytehorse:
- Stand up riding is easier on your back
- Standing up allows you a better view and maneuverability
- All-electric means no mechanical noise; nearly silent
- No gas or exhaust fumes; better for the environment
- Only 33 moving parts; very low maintenance
- More stable than a quad: Quads tip at a 41 degree incline | LyteHorse tips at a 61 degree incline
- More torque and acceleration than internal combustion engines
- Front and back wheels are offset so they each track on virgin ground providing superior traction
- Weighs 730 Lb… can carry a 500 Lb passenger… can tow 1,000 Lb easily
LyteHorse is the all-new pure electric ATV that takes advantage of the incredible torque and power of electric motors. Silent, agile, and able to carry 500 lbs. and tow 1,000 lbs., LyteHorse has the features most sought after by outdoor enthusiasts.
You ride a LyteHorse standing up. No saddle/no straddle on-boarding means you don’t have to “throw a leg over”, you just step on and step off (convenient when you’re wearing heavy gear or a utility belt).
Standing on the “HighRider” cruise deck gives you a spectacular, high vantage point when riding. But when the terrain gets tricky, just step down onto the lower “LowRider” leverage boards and take active control. Use your body to turn quicker, manage bumps and obstacles, and handle steep grades. (LyteHorse can manage a side hill 20% steeper than a typical sit-down quad.)
The amazing maneuverability and tight turning radius of the LyteHorse is made possible by the combination of patent-pending steering geometry, off-set wheel alignment, and independent, custom designed coil-over shock absorbers from Elka (racing shock absorber specialists). LyteHorse suspension is unlike anything currently on any ATV and all but eliminates “bump steer.” And the unique offset wheel design reduces ground compaction, offers unique traction advantages, and contributes to the exhilaration you’ll feel when aggressively cornering.
Chiropractors say that the standing riding position of the LyteHorse is easier on your back than twisting your way through a turn on a sit-down ATV.
Instant power to the four 3000-watt hub motors (one in each wheel) is supplied by the powerful 9.6 kWh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. You get 147.6 Ah and 64-volt nominal, 72-volt peak power output from the custom “LytePack” battery. The battery is built by LyteHorse to the IP67 standard (it’s waterproof) and can be ordered in several configurations to provide the range needed for the tasks at hand. Charging your LytePack is done using the onboard smart charger, just plug it in to any household outlet.
With the battery under your feet and the motors in the wheels, LyteHorse has a low center of gravity which increases your stability over rugged terrain.
Part of what makes a LyteHorse silent is that fact that there’s no mechanical noise. Super quiet electric hub motors, no drivetrain, and Igus iglide® greaseless polymer bushings add up to no sound. So you get no mechanical noise and no emissions, true outdoor stealth at its best.
Also, because there’s no drivetrain, LyteHorse has very few moving parts, which means no scheduled maintenance ever. Keep air in the tires and the battery charged and you’re good to go.
Are Stand-Up Electric ATVs the way of the future? Will we be seeing more competitors to Lytehorse with a similar popular design? Only time will tell, but for the time being this new product appears to be very promising. As always, let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
