[NRAAM 2023] Cloud Defensive MCH-Duty-HO-DF – Next Level EDC Light

Cloud Defensive is well known for their near indestructible lights with some of the highest output on the market. While at NRAAM 2023, I had to stop by their booth and take a look at their new EDC light that has a long list of impressive features. The new MCH-Duty-HO-DF is a mouthful, so let’s break down the name. MCH stands for Mission Configurable Handheld. Duty means this is a Duty grade light that will hold up to abuse. HO is high output and at 1,800 lumens and 50,000 candelas, that is a well deserved name. DF is duel-fuel, meaning this new light can be powered by a single 18650 or two CR123 batteries, increasing flexibility and usability in the field.

The MCH Duty redefines what a hard-use, take-it-to-hell-and-back flashlight should be. Powerful, versatile, configurable, reliable and durable to the point of absurdity, the MCH Duty does not disappoint. It has no equal.

This new MCH Duty checks every box I can imagine for an EDC light. Durability claims are backed up by the materials used in the construction of the MCH Duty and by Cloud Defensive’s incredible transferable lifetime warranty, but still offers serviceability for the end user in the way of replaceable lenses.

With the advent of the OWL, Cloud Defensive became known as a company that prioritizes innovation, power and ultimately, survivability of the product. And the MCH Duty carries that legacy forward. Shrouded in S7 tool steel, the light head features the best tech we have ever packed into light head. That protective tool steel is then heat-treated to 51-55 Rockwell and Black Nitride plated. Resulting in an amazing and brutally-tough piece of equipment.

All that to say that you can view your light as a tool that is basically impervious to impact. Fun Fact: They make jackhammer tools from the same S7 tool steel we use in this light.

We all know the real world is not a gentle place. The MCH Duty is not only ANSI/PLATO FL1 compliant. It is also waterproof to an IPX-8 rating, being serviceable to 100ft for 24hrs. Because the real world is not a dry place either.

Like the OWL, the MCH Duty features a removeable and field-serviceable bezel ring. This allows you to replace a broken lens by yourself, should you manage to break the glass. It is worth noting, the glass on the MCH Duty is the thickest in the business and is incredibly tough. But it is glass. And it can break. If that happens, you can put a new lens on in under 1 minute. Saves you on the warranty drama. Saves us time here at world headquarters and makes everybody happier.

Another feature that I am glad to see becoming more common in the EDC and weapon light market – Programming. If you find out that 50,000 candelas is a bit much all the time, tune the MCH Duty to better fit your needs.

The MCH Duty is fully programmable, by the end-user. This allows you, for the first time, full control over the output of the flashlight. Every MCH ships from the factory in Mode 1. But there are 4 other modes you can select, based on your needs. And you can change the programming anytime you want. So the MCH is more configurable than ever before.

  • Mode 1: High-only (100%)
  • Mode 2: Low (10%), High (100%)
  • Mode 3: High (100%), Low (10%)
  • Mode 4: Very Low (5%), Medium (30%), High (100%)
  • Mode 5: High (100%), Medium (30%), Very Low (5%)

Available now in either Black or FDE with an MSRP of $249.99, this EDC light has a ton of value.
