The Path Less Traveled #072: NEW Moosejaw Coolers Just Dropped!
Andrew D 04.03.23
I went shopping this week and saw that Moosejaw just dropped some new coolers at Wally World despite the company being sold to DSG. Living in the middle of nowhere, my main place to purchase daily necessities is from Sam Walton’s namesake store. It appears that the new Moosejaw coolers have replaced a lot of the Ozark Trail coolers that went on sale a few weeks ago, before the sporting goods season shelving reset. There are six coolers released as of the beginning of March 2023 – three soft-side and three hard sided rotomolded coolers. Let’s see what they are below!
Tryna’ find a cooler? We write a lot about them:

Company Info – Moosejaw
Moosejaw Mountaineering began in Madison Heights, Michigan and became one of the earliest outdoor retailers to embrace online retail and marketing. Walmart shook up the online outdoor retail market when they announced they’d be completing the purchase of Moosejaw in February 2017. Dick’s Sporting Goods acquired Moosejaw in February 2023, finalizing in March 2023.
Moosejaw carries popular brands such as Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot, Arc’teryx, and offers apparel, gear, and more for all kinds of activities from climbing and hiking to yoga and swimming. Moosejaw continues to operate as a standalone and complementary brand to Walmart / Dick’s Sporting Goods e-commerce sites, and their extensive product lineup and expertise remains.

Observations
Moosejaw always has sales going on, so make sure you pay attention to RetailMeNot, Honey, Rakuten, etc… If you are a new customer to Moosejaw, you get 15% off. At these prices, it is difficult to find rotomolded or soft-sided coolers that are this inexpensive and with this level of quality.
I saw these at WalMart, and they reminded me very much of the old Ozark Trail Coolers that were put on clearance in February during the seasonal shelving reset that department stores do. They were hefty, nice, and I really wanted to see whether stickers would permanently adhere to them like my Pelican cases.
I’ve never had a cooler with wheels, but I could see the benefit of it. The durable aluminum handle was cool and really helped with lifting this in and out of a cart (my simulation of putting into the bed of my truck.)
The three year warranty is not as significant as LIFETIME brand’s lifetime warranty on their bear-proof coolers, but I still don’t believe many rotomolded coolers have significant problems that cannot be adjusted with a new gasket or buckle. What do you think?
