POTD: Remington Model 10 Trench Gun Handguard – I Found One!

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have an absolutely extinct treasure brought back to life. This is a Remington Model 10 Trench Gun Handguard. As I mentioned in a previous Photo of the Day, the Remington Model 10 Trench Gun had an interesting hurdle to jump when it came to their World War One offering of a trench gun. The patent for the classic style heatshield was owned by Winchester so in order to work around that they made a handguard out of wood to protect the user’s hands. I recently acquired a very rough Remington Model 10 so I decided I was going to try my hand a making a trench gun version. This requires two important pieces and it unveiled a rabbit hole I was not prepared for. I looked forever for a bayonet lug after learning that the one person that made them had passed away. The same goes for the person who made the handguards. Luckily I had a ping on my saved eBay search for the handguard. I was not out of the woods yet however because it was sold just as fast as it was listed.

I thought all was lost…until I looked at the seller’s account. It appeared they offered some oddly new wood furniture for several milsurps. I messaged them and it turns out they made these! After reaching out I had an absolutely lovely conversation where the seller was extremely nice and said they would crank out an unfinished one for me. Furthermore, they did it first thing the next day. I highly recommend checking them out and giving them some business if you need a Remington Model 10 Trench Gun Handguard or any other wood for your old gun! Their eBay account is bbreproductions.
