Two Louisiana Men Arrested for Harassment of Fishermen

You love to hear it happen, you see anglers getting harassed online but rarely get to see the aftermath online. Well, that’s not the case this time. Again from Louisiana, Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents have arrested two men for alleged harassment of anglers in Plaquemines Parish on October 26th. The Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested Casey Russell, 38, of Slidell, and Daniel Russell, 38, of New Orleans. This happened after the agency received multiple complaints from shrimpers in the False River area of Plaquemines Parish.
The LDWF agents and Deputies from the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and were provided videos and statements of both of the Russell’s throwing glass bottles at other fishermen trying to shrimp in the same area. There was an additional video of the Russell’s purposely cutting off other vessels and then dropping shrimp frames in front of them. At one point in the video you can see the Russell’s purposely entangling the frame of another boat, causing damage to the shrimper’s frame.
Both of the Russell’s were also charged with criminal mischief and criminal damage on top of harassment of persons lawfully fishing. The agents and deputies booked them into the Plaquemines Parish Jail. This is the third offense for Casey Russell and the second offense for Daniel Russell for harassment of persons lawfully fishing. Casey faces up to a $1000 fine and forfeiture to the commission of anything seized in connection with the violation. Daniel faces up to an $800 fine and forfeiture to the commission of anything seized in connection with the violation. The criminal mischief charge carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail. Criminal damage brings it up to $1000 fine and six months in jail.
Because this is not their first violation for harassment, the second and subsequent violation also may include the revocation of the permit or license under which the violation occurred. Also could bar them from being issued another permit or license for that same period. Guys, there’s plenty of water and shrimp out there, don’t be a dickhead and stay out of jail.
The case will forwarded to District Attorney Charles Ballay for prosecution. LDWF Agents participating in the case are Sgt. Villere Reggio and Senior Agent Shea Schexnaydre. PPSO deputies participating in the case are Sgt. David Morgan and Sgt. Bo Serigne.
