NEW Daiwa Tanacom 1200 – Drop Deep or Fly High!

Meet Daiwa’s new champion in their line of electric power assist reels. The newly upgraded design of the Tanacom 1200. Built upon the stellar reputation of the Tanacom series of electric power assist reels, the new 1200 size is more than just a larger model. In a nutshell, it is a versatile new addition to the series that is easier to operate and offers heaps more power and speed than its predecessors. So be it used for running kites chasing sailfish, or deep-dropping far offshore for snowy grouper and swordfish, this reel will run great for years to come.

“Our Tanacom line has long been synonymous with kite fishing and deep-drop action,” says Marc Mills, Senior Marketing Manager at Daiwa, “but the Tanacom 1200 features some engineering and design changes that make it extra special. Like all Tanacom Series reels, its remarkably strong and versatile – but now it’s even easier to use, plus it has more power, speed, efficiency and line capacity.”

To start off with the upgrades of the Tanacom 1200 over the previous models is the increased line capacity. Critical for fishing those super deep waters where the grouper and tilefish live, the reel can hold an astounding 1,100 yards of 80-pound test Daiwa J-Braid. That’s almost two-thirds of a mile of line, about 25% more line capacity than the Tanacom 1000. Along with the increased line capacity, the new reel also features a 30% faster line retrieval rate and 20% more pulling power. The drag design has been improved and now is capable of putting out 55lbs of drag pressure. Just for those Kite-fishing guys, the reel has an oversized line guide aperture to let big knots and swivels pass through easily.

Still, the biggest improvement to the reel has to be the new motor placement and gearing system. Previous iterations of the Tanacom reels had the motor mounted on the front of the reel which was sufficient for smaller reels. The Tanacom 1200, however, has the motor and new gearing hidden inside the spool itself, creating more power and efficiency.

“This new engineering design allows the same dependable motor we’ve had such great success with to generate even more power, speed and efficiency,” notes Mills. “Combine that with the rigid frame and side-plates, plus repositioned bearings that see less water exposure, and this reel is ready to rock and roll. It’s so fast, powerful, smooth, and saltwater tough that I can even see it pulling double-duty with swordfish, especially considering the outstanding line capacity.”

Even the screen of the Tanacom 1200 was changed for ease of use, the screen is an easy-to-read LED dot screen with seal electronics with a slew of language options to prompt you through all the power assist settings and procedures including automatic stop and jigging features. Anglers can choose to fight fish with the Power Lever and Aluminum Round Knob or let the 12-volt power variable-speed assist do the heavy lifting. Once you’re back on shore just give it a light spray with fresh water to clean it off, no need to worry about the electronics because they are fully sealed. Available NOW. $799 MSRP is a knock-out of a price for how much reel you’re getting.
