POTD: The Other Other 22 – Remington Model 16 Semi-Automatic Rifle

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a cool old Remington 22 rifle. Most folks would assume this rimfire rifle chambered for 22 was a 22 long rifle, but you would be mistaken. This is the Remington Model 16 chambered for 22 Remington Auto. These elegant plinkers were made to compete with the very popular Winchester self-loading 22 rifles of the time. Like most guns with a proprietary cartridge, this rifle did not last long. Not to say it was a failure, but it did sell for over 10 years from 1916 until 1928. They were marketed as excellent rabbit guns and featured a hidden tubular magazine in the stock much like many competing rifles of the day. The tube was accessed by pushing a button on the butt plate and the tube end would reveal itself to be pulled out.
