5 Men Caught OVER the Louisiana Limit of Red Snapper

We got another case of people going over the legal limit out of Louisiana. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited five men for alleged recreational fishing violations in the Gulf of Mexico. This occurred in Cameron Parish on September 2nd. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agents cited these five men with being over the daily limit of Red Snapper for Louisiana:

  • Mark Lafuria, 45
  • Jacoby Martin, 42
  • Christopher Denton, 38
  • Bill Chaumont, 29
  • Christopher Craven, 54

All of the men from Lake Charles, Louisiana were cited for taking over the legal daily limit of red snapper. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Agents were on patrol in the Gulf of Mexico when they came in contact with the five men approximately 92 miles south of Cameron. The men were fishing at an oil/gas platform in the West Cameron Block of the Gulf of Mexico. The LDWF Agents boarded the vessel to conduct a fisheries compliance check and found the men to be in possession of 21 red snappers. The daily limit of red snappers is three snappers per person.  This put the five men 6 snappers over the red snapper daily limit.

The LDWF Agents seized the 21 red snappers along with giving the five men their citation. The red snappers were then donated to a local charity to feed those in need. A citation for taking over the daily limit of red snapper carries a fine of up to a $350 fine The men may also face a civil restitution charge for the replacement value of the red snapper totaling $172.14.

The Agents participating, in this case, are Sgt. Justin Sonnier, Senior Agent Michael Treadway, Senior Agent Jacob Cramer and Senior Agent Michael Darbonne. To see the press release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries see here.
