POTD: Ithaca M6 Air Crew Survival Combination Gun
Sam.S 04.05.22
Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a tangent gun off of the previous Photo of the Day on the M4 Survival Carbine. This is the Ithaca M6 Air Crew Survival Combination Gun. These Ithaca combination guns were issued along with the M4 Survival Carbine from the early 1950s to the late 1970s. They were eventually replaced by the AR5 rifle which I covered in my Curious Relics articles on the AR7. The new Ithaca combination gun was arguably a little more useful as an all-around survival rifle to be used by aircrews in comparison to the M4 Survival Carbine. It was a foldable break-action over/under style combination gun that had one barrel chambered for the .22 Hornet cartridge and the other barrel for .410 shotgun shells. The stock also featured a foam insert with shell slots for extra ammunition. Chiappa currently reproduces the M6.
“The gun is marked “U.S.A.F. PROPERTY”.”
