POTD: Big Bore to Plinker – Rare Hoffer-Thompson .22 Adaptors

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! This time around I found a nice picture of some sets of 22 adapters that are very rare. These are Hoffer-Thompson 30-06 .22 Adaptors. They were made for training versions of the M1903 Springfield rifle. The M1903 rifles would be fit with a 22 caliber barrel and each adapter shown in the stripper clip would have a single 22 rimfire bullet inside. This way a soldier or even later on some kid at a carnival could plink targets and have the same exact manual of arms as if the gun was still in 30-06. Strip all five rounds into the gun, chamber, and fire until empty.

“Four stripper clips containing five 22 caliber adaptors for the Model 1903 Hoffer-Thompson Gallery Practice rifle. The practice rifles were identical to the 30 caliber Model 1903 rifles except were fitted with a 22 caliber barrel. 22 caliber rounds are put into the adaptors then the rifle is loaded with the stripper clip.”
