Ruger Introduces a Dedicated Left-Handed 10/22 Rifle Model

This announcement sort of hits close to home. While I myself am not a left-hand dominant individual, my father is or was. Growing up my Dad was forced to learn to do a lot of things right-handed and that also meant shooting and I had always wondered from a young age why more rifles weren’t made with left-handed people in mind. Ruger has just announced today that they will be officially releasing a dedicated left-handed 10/22 rifle model effective immediately.

The new rifle comes directly from the Ruger Custom Shop. The Custom Shop model is going to have a lot more features than your standard 10/22 carbine models and looks to be fully kitted out with everything except for an optic. The core of the rifle starts with the billet left-handed receiver complete with a left-side charging handle and naturally left-handed ejection. The BX-1 magazines have also received a facelift and rearrangement as well now featuring a green follower and a left-handed rotary design to accommodate the new ejection and feeding pattern. The new rifle will also feature a Ruger BX trigger with a 3-pound trigger pull weight and minimal overtravel. The only right-handed thing on this rifle is the barrel 1:16 twist which terminates with a threaded 1/2″ x 28 TPI muzzle that is fitted with an included muzzle brake.

Finally, the rifle will also feature a nice hard-sided case and a Ruger Custom Shop Certificate of Authenticity, a challenge coin, a Ruger decal, and a soft cleaning cloth. This rifle not only seems to meet the needs of the left-handed shooter but also the left-handed competition. It also appears that the cross-bolt safety, as well as the controls for raising the comb on the stock, have been reversed to accommodate the left-handed shooter. Everything from the muzzle to the stock has been adapted to fit the left-handed competitor and I think that’s great. I’d like to hear your thoughts (specifically from you left-handed shooters) on the new rifle from Ruger! The new rifle is on sale now on the Ruger website and through distributors for an MSRP of $899.00.
