POTD: Just a Lil’ Thing – Menz August Liliput Pistol 4.25mm

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The other day I shared the Kolibri pistol which is arguably the smallest pistol in the world. Here we have a small pistol from the 1920s. The Liliput pistol fired a 4.25mm centerfire cartridge fed from a detachable magazine. This is a highly embellished example that was seen on Rock Island Auction Company’s website.

“The 4.25 mm Liliput pistol is one of the smallest semiautomatic handguns ever made (the Kolibri is generally considered the smallest). This Model 1927 pistol features factory engraving covering approximately 95% of the gold plated metal surfaces. The frame, barrel, slide, trigger, trigger guard and grip straps have an extensive oak leaf and acorn engraving pattern, with an exceptionally fine punch dot background. The engraving even extends to the base of the gold plated magazine. The barrel has a crown/N commercial proof on the left side and the left side of the frame is marked “LILIPUT KAL-4,25 / Modell 1927″. The trigger is numbered to the gun. Fitted with ivory colored checkered plastic grips with caliber medallions.”
