Carrying a shotgun around all day whether it’s for bird season or just out to the trap or skeet range can be a chore sometimes. Most over-under shotguns don’t traditionally have slings and most shooters will opt to just carry the shotgun over the shoulder or slung under their arm. That being said, I don’t know anyone who has ever complained that a shotgun was “too light” and Beretta has now unveiled their lightweight Ultraleggero (literally “ultralight”) over-under shotgun for the hunting and sporting community. The shotgun is built off of the already existing Beretta 690 action, but trimmed down to be a sub 7lb over-under shotgun.

The Ultraleggero begins a whole new chapter in the history of lightweight over-and-under shotguns, pushing the boundaries of design beyond all previous imagination; delivering the strength and reliability of a steel receiver but with an exceptionally low weight, something that had only previously been achieved with aluminium actions. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art engineering techniques, Beretta has “skeletonised” the receiver, including only the structural elements that are essential for the resistance and performance of this shotgun. The Beretta Ultraleggero is just 2.8 kilogram (6.17 lbs) with a 20″ barrel. Upon purchasing an Ultraleggero you’ll also receive an ABS hard case, a set of 5 chokes with a choke key, lubricating oil, and a card to access the online user manual. You’ll also receive an opportunity to register your new shotgun and receive a free Ultraleggero gun sock. While heavier shotguns are great for stability and consistency, a lightweight fast-moving shotgun is perfect for hitting fast-moving flying targets.
