POTD: Lever Action Musket? – Winchester Prototype
Sam.S 05.06.21
Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a big oddity since it is a photo of a Winchester prototype. This photo is here because of Cody Firearms Museum’s (please check them out!) collection of extraordinary firearms (especially Winchester). They are the ones that have the deep-dive info on this gun so I’ll let them take it away below:
“This is a Winchester Model 1867 or 68. It’s also close to an 1866 rifle that was never put into production. This military style musket is actually one of several probably built for foreign military sales in the late 1860s as it has a crown proof on the barrel. They weren’t adopted and didn’t enter production so maybe a model designation is a bit much, but there are several similar guns in our collection. This particular one is chambered for a .45 CF cartridge.”
