Homeowner Kills 2 of 3 Home Invaders, Neighbor Nabs Third
Russ Chastain 07.15.20
Good neighbors are more precious than gold, and guns are great for self defense. These are my “takeaways” from the following story.
A homeowner in Wesley Chapel, FL was reportedly relaxing in his home shortly after midnight when he heard the sound of breaking glass and responded by grabbing a gun. I’d call that a good first response.
When he spotted an armed and masked man coming at him down a long hallway, the homeowner shot him.
When a second armed man followed the first, gunfire was exchanged and another bad guy fell.
A third crook entered the hallway and the homeowner fired once again. The bad guy fell and the good guy’s gun jammed. He hurriedly fetched another.
Upon his return to the hallway, he found the third guy missing. And then his phone rang.
It was his neighbor, calling to say he’d caught the third guy and was holding him at gunpoint.
The first two home invaders died at the scene. The third was taken to a hospital to be treated. He is expected to survive — and to be charged with second-degree murder (because of his role in a felony in which two people died) as well as home invasion robbery.
It was apparently not a typical break-in according to the county Sheriff; the three perpetrators had some connection with the homeowner and had targeted him specifically.
Good guns and good neighbors. Gotta love ’em.
